US, March 3, 2008 - Nintendo Japan released a new Wii Channel today in its home territory. Wii owners on the island nation can now download the Television Friend Channel (in Japanese, Terebi no Tomo Channel). As with most Wii Channels, the price is an easy to swallow free!

This stamp feature is also being used to turn the Television Friend Channel into somewhat of a community tool. The Channel alerts you to the programs that your friends and family have stamped. The Channel also tracks the stamps across all Wii users and rates programs on a five star scale based off viewer interest.

The only thing missing is a hard drive to actually record the programs. While the Wii won't have that, Nintendo has come up with a way to further integrate the system with the television viewing experience. While the Television Friend Channel is running, you can use the Wiimote as a replacement for your television remote. The controller can be used to change the channel and adjust volume.
La seule chose qui manque c'est un disque dur. Là je suis pas trop sur, mais il est dit qu'on peux utiliser la wiimote pour changer de chaine et monter le volume, donc il se pourrait qu'on puisse regarder la tv à travers cette chaine...

Nintendo notes that this little trick is accomplished by having the Wii sensor bar send out a signal which is bounced off a wall and transmitted back to the television. The company suggests putting the sensor bar below the television, or close to the area where the television receives signals from its normal remote.
